Boxing Betting Rules
Before we go into the details of boxing betting and tips on how to go about it, here are a few things you need to know about boxing.
Boxing is a combat sport in which two people, usually wearing protective gloves, throw punches at each other for a predetermined amount of time in a boxing ring.
Amateur boxing is both an Olympic and Commonwealth Games sport and is a common fixture in most international games — it also has its own World Championships.
Boxing is overseen by a referee over a series of one — to three — minute intervals called rounds.
The result is decided when an opponent is deemed incapable to continue by a referee, is disqualified for breaking a rule, or resigns by throwing in a towel. If a fight completes all of its allocated rounds, the victor is determined by judges’ scorecards at the end of the contest. In the event that both fighters gain equal scores from the judges, professional bouts are considered a draw. In Olympic boxing, because a winner must be declared, judges award the contest to one fighter on technical criteria.
Boxing evolved from 16th- and 18th- century prizefights, largely in Great Britain, to the forerunner of modern boxing in the mid-19th century with the 1867 introduction of the Marquess of Queensberry Rules.
Boxing Betting Common Rules
If any boxer withdraws from the bout, bets are void.
If about is postponed, bets are void, with the exception of the Olympic Games, where bets do stand if the bout is concluded before the closing ceremony.
A fight is determined having started once the bell is sounded for the beginning of the first round.
Bets are settled on the result determined in the ring and by the are not subject to any revisions or amendments after the boxers have left the ring.
In the event of a no-contest being declared, or a technical draw being declared within the first four rounds, all bets will be made void unless the outcome of a particular market has already been decided.
Super Series bouts are settled on the outcome declared by the 3 Judge’s scorecards and do not include Countback/4th Judge or other Tie Breaking methods.
The bell will signal the end of a round and the bell being sounded again will signal the start of the next round. Therefore, if a boxer withdraws after the bell is sounded to signal the start of the next round, the boxer is determined to have lost in that round, even if there is no competitive action in that round.
Boxing Betting Bout Betting
Predict the winner. The market includes the price for a draw, and if the result is a draw, bets on either boxer to win are determined lost.
Boxing Betting Round by Round Betting
Predict the round in which your selection will win the fight. Betting on rounds is determined by a boxer winning by a KO, TKO, or disqualification during the round. In the event of a Technical Decision (TD) before the end of the fight, all bets will be settled as a win by decision.
If for any reason the selected number of rounds changes, all-round by round bets are determined void.
Boxing Betting Method of Result
Predict the method by which the result of the bout will be determined. A price will be offered for the draw and in the event of a draw, stakes are lost on a KO, TKO, Decision, Technical Decision, or a Disqualification. In the event of a technical draw, bets are void.
KO is determined as a boxer being knocked to the canvas and not being able to continue either by failing to get up before the count reaches 10 or by the referee determining during/after the count that the fighter is unable to continue.
TKO is determined as the referee intervening to stop the fight due to the fighter being in immediate danger and/or is unable to defend themselves, or the fighters corner ends the fight by throwing in the towel, or a fighter does not get up from his stool to re-engage.
DQ is when the referee stops the bout due to repeated or serious rules violations. In such circumstance, the disqualified fighter is determined to have lost the bout
Technical Decision is when the bout is stopped by the referee or doctor, due to an accidental injury suffered by one of the fighters. The referee will defer to the Judges’ scorecards, and in all such circumstances, the Technical decision is determined as the method of victory, and points/decisions will be the winner in round betting or group round betting.
Boxing Betting Grouped Round Betting
Predict the group of rounds in which your selection will win the fight.
Boxing Betting Total Rounds
Predict the number of rounds. Where a half is stated in three minutes round, 1 minute 30 seconds will determine the half for under/over betting. The same principle is used for 2 minutes round etc.
Boxing Betting Tournament Winner
Predict the official winner of the tournament. Bets will be settled on the official standings immediately following the last bout in the tournament. Any subsequent amendments to the result do not affect bets.
Stakes will be lost on any boxers who withdraw after the start of the tournament. Reserves and substitutes do not count for betting purposes and bets will be settled on the result ‘without any reserves or substitutes’.
Boxing Betting Score a Knockdown
Predict if either boxer will knock down his opponent. A knockdown is when an opponent is knocked out or receiving a mandatory 8 count. Anything determined by a slip by the referee will not count as a knockdown.
Boxing Betting To Go the Distance
Predict whether or not the fight will be determined by points.
